Heroes and Hidden Treasures

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

From my point of view, a Hidden Treasure is what makes a real Pirates Movie. That’s why the first time I saw “Pirates of the Caribbean” I didn’t like it too much. I was expecting a hidden treasure and a search (for the treasure) but the treasure resulted to be there, more or less, from the beginning of the film. I had to see it one more time to appreciate a different kind of film ambiented in a Pirates scenario. It also had the adventure component, which is something very important for a Pirate’s Film too.

One film I enjoyed a lot when I was a child was “The Goonies”. It has got everything a child would want: A treasure, the search and an adventure. Probably I measure every modern Pirate’s movie with “The Goonies” and if there is any of this components missing I don’t like it as anybody else. Needless to say that I grew up watching the Indiana Jones adventures movies and this movies also have this three components: A treasure, the search and adventure, so not just “The Goonies” marked my likes.

I find a lack of this three components in modern movies. Sometimes you find an adventures movie but without treasure, other times without search. Sometimes they have tragic endings (which don’t go very well with adventures movies) and lately, adventurers have an annoying and predictable self-confidence. They always know exactly what they are doing and they always have a plan. This makes them a lot more uncharming than Indiana Jones who was always improvising everything, daring to do things always with doubt signs on his face, but finishing everything successfully with a big bit of luck.

Heroes are charming as long as they are next to us as humans, because you feel a big emotion when they succeed in achieving something with effort as if were ourselves who were trying to do it. If they lack of this quality we can’t see them as our equals and we don’t feel this emotions.

Hopefully we will be reaching soon a new movies era that will take in consideration what spectators like and want. As movies business is not at its best moment, they are investigating on this things and they will come up with something that will capture us back as faithful spectators.

Women’s Dictionary

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

This a very interesting video that will save men  a lot of headaches. The dictionary is not about secret words that women use when they talk to other women. It is much more about words and expressions that women use daily and sound as any other normal word, but mean something completely different from what they sound.

This is something men have always suspected but today we have a solid confirmation from a woman’s mouth. She’s very good on explaining them, so watch her explanations and listen carefully to each meaning.

After watching the video, don’t just forget about what you saw. Think about it and put it into practice by listening to your woman (this is something you should always do) and translating it to the real meaning. If you do it right you will create a better atmosphere in your relationship with her.

Good Luck!

New Orbiter Widget

Sunday, September 2nd, 2007

utwou presents the “Orbiter Widget”. It is a piece of code that renders a spinning image in a specific area.

I have created the following image for this engine:

It will appear werever there is an orbiter.

This is the first version but there will be more versions to come.

You can combine as many orbiters as you want on the same page, starting at different points and on the same or different areas.

To create your own orbiter you need:
An Image: Find any image that suits you and host it at any image hosting server, like for example: Imageshack.us you will need to get the “direct” “full size” link. Or if you have your own personal page, host it there.
A personal page: You can paste the orbiter’s code in any page that allows you to paste HTML code.
Coordinates: Some coordinates to determine the orbiters area. An initial XY pair and a box opposite corner (antoher XY pair) The initial Pair can be at any position an orbiter will start orbiting there. If you set the same XY pair por starting and finishing positions, the orbiter wont move (it will be like a sticker) Play with the options as much as you need to get the exact orbiter that you want.
