5.1 magnitude earthquake in Ciudad Real (Spain)

The National Geographic Center has raised the earthquake’s magnitude to 5.1

August 12th, 2007 8:47 GMT: An earthquake which registered a 4.7 magnitude in Ciudad Real, has been felt all over Spain with more intensity in the center of the country.

Residents in the surroundings of Madrid reported at least 5 seconds of shaking.

A magnitud of 4.2 is enough to sweep things from shelves and pictures from walls but no major damages or injuries have been reported. Everybody was shocked by the earthquake because Spain is not used to earth temblors and the Spanish emergencies telephone number (112) has received so many calls that they have recorded a message saying that the emergency services are already working on the earthquake alarm, just in case anybody is calling for the same reason.

In a town next to the epicenter the ceiling of a theater fell down and some buildings got cracks and minor damages. No other damages have been registered over the rest of the country.
